If you notice distortions or irregular surface areas in your 3D scans, this article explains the main causes and how to prevent them.
Possible Causes
One common cause is scanning against backgrounds with strong, reflective, or very vibrant colors. These can create reflections that appear as discolored or irregular areas on your scan. However, if the steps below are followed correctly, background colors should not cause issues.
Solutions
-
Distance from Background
The greater the distance between the turntable and the background, the better. Increasing this distance significantly reduces reflection-related surface artifacts. Please follow these instructions.
-
Scanning Process
This is the most critical factor. Please always follow our scanning guidelines precisely:- Perform the scan using four complete rotations of the turntable.
- Ensure all steps in our recommended scanning process are followed.
- Detailed instructions can be found here.
When these steps are followed correctly, distortions, discolored areas, and other surface artifacts should no longer occur.
